How to de-stress for nurturing healthy skin, nails and hair.

Stress is a part of modern life, it affects not only mental health but also physical health. Stress causes your body to respond chemically, making your skin more sensitive and reactive. When you're under long-term stress, your hair, nails, and skin will show it. Therefore, reducing stress is also a way to maintain youthful skin, nails and hair.

How stress affects your skin, nail and hair.

Stress has a negative effect on the barrier function of the skin, resulting in water loss that inhibits the skin’s ability to repair itself after an injury. Besides, stress is also the reason for the development of temporary stress-related acne. When a person becomes stressed, the level of the body’s stress hormone (cortisol) rises which leads to an increase in oil production, causing oily skin, acne, and other related skin problems. 

In fact,  there are a variety of reasons why hair loss, but stress may be the most common cause. When a person is under pressure, Hair can go into the telogen phase ( hair loss problems),  which can last up to 3 months following stressful incidents.

When people are worried, their nails can display visible symptoms of stress as brittle and pee. Some people acquire the habit of biting or picking at their nails when they are under pressure. Furthermore, white horizontal lines can also occur across the nails as a result of physical or mental stress.

How to release stress. 

1. Cuddle your loved one.

Previous research proved that physical contact can help you relax significantly. Hugging a loved one may be very therapeutic. Oxytocin, which is linked to feelings of happiness and a reduction in stress, is released when you embrace someone. It lowers blood pressure, and the stress hormone norepinephrine, thus, making you feel more relaxed. 

Don't be hesitant to cuddle your loved one or your pet whenever you feel bad.

2. Enjoy Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can make you feel more energetic, calm, or present in the moment, which can help with stress alleviation. According to new research, specific fragrances can change brain wave activity and lower stress hormone levels in the body. Adding aromatherapy throughout your day as a method for nurturing your mental health. 

3. Eat a Balanced Diet

Stress reactivity can be exacerbated by a poor diet. Emotional eating and grabbing for high-fat, high-sugar meals might bring a short-term sensation of comfort, but they will only contribute to your long-term stress. For instance,  cookies and potato chips might increase blood sugar to surge temporarily, however, after that, when your blood sugar drops, you may feel more stressed and anxious if your blood sugar drops. Over time, eating a balanced diet might help you cope with stress. Foods like eggs, avocado, walnuts, etc. are foods for mood management and energy balance. 

4. Make Time for Leisure Activities

Hobbies and leisure are essential for living your best life. However, many people believe that their lives are too hectic for hobbies, games, or extra enjoyment. In reality, leisure activities may be a great way to de-stress and feel your best. Some studies proved the proof that you'll perform better if you feel better, and leisure time may help you work more efficiently. 

5. Develop a Positive Self-Talk Habit

Self-doubt, harsh self-criticism, and doomsday scenarios are the most common reasons causing stress. As a result,  it's important how you communicate with yourself in the right way called positive self-talk. . You can have a more realistic and empathetic dialogue with yourself. Respond with gentler internal dialogue when you call yourself names or question your capacity to accomplish. Furthermore, having an upbeat and empathetic talk might assist you in managing your emotions and taking constructive action.
